The war in Iraq came at a great cost. The loss of human life, civilians and military. What can we learn from this event so we can reduce war or eliminate it?

How can we honour those who lost their lives, and their families and friends? How can we ensure their sacrifices will bring about peace?

Please remember that all of us can make at least some contribution to peace - peace within ourselves, peace within our families, peace in our country and peace for the world.

Who are we, as people in this world being that we are on the brink of what could be a whole series of wars?

I ask myself this, and also the following questions.

Am I being passive, and not speaking up when I see injustice, thus allowing injustice to grow?
Am I being righteous and arrogant, and being unwilling to consider other people's different point of view?
Am I being a wishful thinker, foolishly thinking that the desired outcome will just happen?
Am I being a victim acting helpless and blaming others?
Am I being a bully, using force and coercion to get the outcome that I desire?
Am I being sleazy, and not disclosing my true motives?
Am I being complacent and lazy, unwilling to get off the couch, turn off the television (or computer) and start contributing to the world?
Am I isolating myself, being busy earning money to pay for things at the cost of my own contribution to family, friends and community?

I admit that I am guilty of all of these.

The fact that just about everybody is, can be just another excuse.

I encourage you all to ask yourself the same questions. The answers may show us why we are on the brink of a war.
