For people to see your website they need to type the domain
name in to their computer. It is the "address" of your website.
Sometimes some people call a domain name a "URL" ( uniform resource locator )
While domain names start with http:// the computer may automatically put that part of the address in for you.
Some domain names start with "www." and others do not. Some will work with or without the www.
Some examples of domain names are http://givetogive.info and http://www.givetogive.info you can use either, and a different name that lead to the same site is called an alias
http://www.borderlands.org.au/ is an organisation in Australia
http://www.borderlands.org.au/ncq/ is an organisation that shares Borderlands' resources. Notice that sharing resources can save costs and show the relationship of businesses, organisations or people. in this case ncq must be typed all in lower case, and the / must be at the end, otherwise the page will not be found.
http://www.users.bigpond.com/peter_pullar/ is the free webspace provided with my internet access by my internet service provider. Notice that it is fairly long and the chances of typing it correctly may be less than a shorter name.
Just clicking on the blue underlined text is much easier and more accurate than typing it in to the computer. Sending website addresses by email or from another website makes your website easy to find even if it has a long name.
You can register a domain name, and there is normally a fee for that. Some web hosting business include domain name registration in the cost of web hosting.
