I have been amazed by the generosity of many, and have heard many of these people sharing passionately about the particular organizations that they are currently supporting. Many of these businesses are not finding it easy to find those dollars, and I have heard of cutbacks in aircraft and travel industries since September 11, and in air conditioning industries with the mild summers we have had. Yet those businesses have continued to be generous. I was thinking about this as I was standing in line waiting to get a copy of the Cashflow Quadrant book signed by its author. His wife, Kim Kiyosaki was at the table, and I shared my thoughts with her. She said "Maybe it is because they give that they are prosperous" I was happy to reflect on her comment. However I feel saddened to hear from other businesses who speak of their industry being competitive. They say that they can not afford to contribute anything. I question why they are not developing their product or service to provide a unique advantage over similar businesses, to their target customers, and actively communicating that advantage to their customer's decision makers . They complain that the market is price driven. I believe that at least some of these businesses are colluding with their customers in producing inferior quality goods and services. They are not acknowledging or expressing their own uniqueness. They are making their customers less prosperous. For example, about 4 years ago, I saw for myself some examples of some state
government contracts being let on price. The resulting product was so inferior
that it did not perform its intended function. Expensive rework was performed to
try to fix the problem. Then the government has had to pay again for another
supplier to redo the whole project. I often see or hear of many similar wasteful
examples in private industry. I ask what is going on? |
