Those conversations were very stilted. Lesley and I both felt uncomfortable, and very distant from each other. We could do jigsaw puzzles together, and I could fix things around the house for her, and she was happy to do things for me, but we did not really get to fully enjoy each other. During the Landmark Forum I saw the possibility for myself of being authentic, and saying what I really wanted to say to Lesley. I saw how much I had been judging myself and her, and how my judging was costing me enjoyment and relatedness. After the Landmark forum, I enjoyed speaking with Lesley. I felt closer to her than ever before in my life. Lesley died in 1995. I am so glad that I had said most of what I really wanted to say to her before she died. |
